"Coming back from Yamuna River" as seen on 55th Venice Biennale 2013

Wibke von Bonin, Art Historian and Publicist

He visualizes time by sending light objects through the darkness of space and documenting its pathway. The time exposure is one of the most obvious characteristics of his works. This enables him to spatially capture a period: Visions of Time.

André Wagner (born 1980 in Burgstädt, lives and works in Berlin / Potsdam) has created a remarkable work in the last ten years. The young photographer picks up real existing (light) situations and creates painterly pictures through long exposures. With the camera, it is possible for him to expand his visual perception and picture context. Wagner's photographs reveal the process of artistic engagement with the contradictory nature of human existence: between deep connection with nature and the culture of industrial progress. This is evident both in his early fire drawings, which he immediately writes in the nocturnal landscape of a self-portrait, and in his landscape portraits, which reflect man and nature as manifestations.
